Wireless Home Security
Installing a home wireless security system is one of the best things you can do to protect and add value to your home. Unlike a traditional system, a wireless system can be installed without drilling holes in your walls and floors, which means you do not need a professional installer to do the work. With a bit of careful planning, the average homeowner will have no trouble installing their system themselves in a day. And the security will last a lifetime.
The first, and most important, step is planning out the best spots for all the components of your security system. The main components of the system are: a control panel, a siren, motion and optional noise sensors which detect glass breaking. The control panel should be placed near the door you use most often to come and go from the home as you will use it to set the alarm before you leave and turn it off when you return using the panel's keypad. The siren can be placed inside or outside of the house. If placed inside, it can deafen and disorient a thief, making them want to get out more than they want to take any of your belongings. Placing the siren outside will make it easier for your neighbors to hear so that they can call the police. If you choose to place the unit outside, be sure to place it high enough off the ground that a clever thief cannot reach it to disable it before attempting to break in. The smartest option would be to opt for two sirens, one inside and one outside.
The net step in installing home wireless security is to choose the number and type of wireless sensors you want to use. This will depend a lot on the size and layout of your home. Magnetic sensors for doors and windows are a good starting point. They are a simple but effective way of securing the perimeter of your home. These sensors are made up of two magnetic pieces. One attaches to the window or door and the other goes on the casing right next to it. If the window or door is opened it separates the magnets and the alarm sounds. A good kit will come with one sensor that has a delay of a few seconds so you can use that one at the door by the panel. That way you do not have to listen to the alarm shriek while you enter your code to shut it off.
Next on the list are motion detectors. These are best used in hallways and other large or centrally located rooms an intruder would be likely to pass through. The sensitivity of these units can be adjusted so the pets won't set them off but the bad guys will. Your home wireless security system will also have different settings to allow you to turn the door and window sensors on but leave the motion detectors off while you are at home. This way you don't set off the alarm headed for a glass of water in the middle of the night.
